Edit Day in Final Cut Pro from Glenn McElhose on Vimeo.
It usually takes about 6-8 hours to edit Diggnation in it’s basic sense. While doing so one day, I did a screen capture of the entire process and then condensed it down to 3 minutes and set it to music. Sometime soon, I’ll upload a basic ‘how to’ video on jumping into Final Cut Pro. I’m not a certified instructor by any means, but upon many ocassion, I’ve done little 10 minute sitdowns with people to explain some basics that allow for quickly having fun with editing. It’s not a hard app to learn but if you’re just starting out, there are a few things that’ll help make it easy and fun really quickly.

I’ve always been thinking about how much time you spent editing the weekly episodes together. Pretty impressive stuff. Keep up the good work, man. You rock
Glenn, I would kill for a weekly thing from you. In fact it should be a show on Rev3! What about Premiere 3.0? Used that any?
I’m just starting to learn Final Cut and would love some basic tips to help get started. keep us updated, thank you!
daddy like ,koo!
looks like you go off on tangents lol or you edited it that way I the harder I work on something I end up going down rabbit holes and then realizing I am now doing something completely unrelated to what I was working on … stupid A.D.D.

Interesting to watch this, and would love to see a how-to video from you soon!
Wow how many times do you re watch diggnation glen ?
didn’t you condense it down to two minutes??
Love it! ^^
That was awesome Hippy!!
I really like the audio. Who’s playing that song?
I’m looking forward to seeing the Final Cut tutorial.
I would love to see a weekly editing show with Glenn on Revision 3!
I would love to see a video on an introduction to editing in Final Cut Pro, also this vid was kewl.
Glenn when you wrap up editing and post an episode do you archive everything you used to make said show? Are you backing up everything you’re utilizing? If so, is it onboard for x amount of time or do you rock a series of external hard drives?
love the work, keep it up.
Glenn, first of all thank for your work on Diggnation, I love the show !
I had a sound question as im working on geeting my video podcast better. What lapel mike do you use and how do you mix them ? (i dont know if its the correct words since im French… im talking about the microphones you put on Kevin & Alex)
Thanks and keep up the good work !
crazy genius editing
Hey Jerome!
I use the Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series as a wireless lavalier option. They work pretty well for all you’d need for podcasting. There are occasional audio drop-outs and static, so if you can go wired instead of wireless, the less chance of that kind of stuff happening. There about $500 each which is a bit spendy, so consider wired options which are quite less if you can get away with that – just takes more prep and you have to be sure nobody is going anywhere – cuz if they do, they’ll probably forget they’re attached and pull over your camera. Anyway, hope that helps. If anyone has any other recs on what they use, please chime in – I’d love to hear (ha!) about it as well.

Yeah, thanks for making me feel like a heel. I’ve been wanting to do that for about 7 months now – ever since I posted that FCP diggnation edit video. I actually tried once. I like to shoot things when I’m by myself so I don’t feel so awkward around others. I set up the camera and started screen capturing using iShowU on what I was doing in FCP. I finished and the next day went back to edit the piece, and realized that the battery on the lav mic died and you can’t hear anything. I’ll do it again soon and shall be better prepared. While not the best tutorial, I do have a general system I use to guide people quickly through FCP – to get them into it quickly and easily – because it is an easy application if you know of a few things to do to keep it interesting during the learning process. The books are huge and overwhelming and shouldn’t be. Anyway, thanks for asking – coming soon! Thanks for the push Philip! G
Hi Glenn–
I look forward to that “how to” on Final Cut Pro. Please keep us updated on when it is coming out! Sometimes those little tips and tricks make all the difference!
All the best,
T
Huge fan of the show but I also gotta give Hippie Glenn props for this sick overview!!
I’m a DJ and love all types of music (I try to play as many genres as possible when I’m gigging) and I’ve always felt like there are numerous videos/podcasts that could be so much better if they used better, DJ-inspired, music! Props to Glenn for using good music here!
Marius, the track Glenn’s using in this video is Claude VonStroke’s “The Whistler.”
Stay up and stay on/
