Hair Tips from Glenn McElhose on Vimeo.
I was about to cut my hair, as I do about once/month or so, and figured I’d share some of my techniques. Cutting my own hair for roughly the last 10 years now has saved me time, lots of time, money, lots of money, and is way more custom. I have run into issues of bald patches here and there, but it’s always fixable for the most part. However, one time I did create a few too many patches that were too deep and had to have them filled in on a daily basis by my girlfriend for about a week with an eye pencil that matched my hair color – less noticeable. Anyway, that’s that and this is this.

Haha hey has long as you like it..
haha, wow it looks good. i tried once to cut my boyfriend’s and my son’s hair. it.. didn’t come out that good….
Actually the real reason i’m here is because i was hoping you could help me. My boyfriend watches diggnation and he told me about you. i am a newbie vegan.. but i’m having such a hard time with it. especially in my family that eat a ton of meat, including my boyfriend, so i don’t know anyone else who is a vegan much less a vegetarian that can help me with this. can you help me somehow? i really want to be a vegan, but only if you can. i don’t want to be a bother
Cool beans. I personally think the choppy style looks great, but patches are a big down side.
Great tips, I’ll have to try that.
[...] past January and it’s a place for Random video blogs by Glenn. In his newest video, he shares tips on how YOU can cut your own hair – what?! That’s right folks, save money in these hard economic times by trimming your own [...]
That haircut looks like a FCP jumpcut. I love the bit about feeling and emotion. Hilarious!!!
haha, that back is funny. I cut my own hair too but I have long hair and my technique is to tie them into pig tails and pull all the hair forward and clip the tails right above my first rib bone.
good stuff man. thanks for sharing.
i like the hair, though i do think i have to agree with, kristen i believe her name is. i do like the choppy look, and have dont it to myself, but the back of the head usually doesnt work for that.
excellent! been checking back ever since your popcorn vid, wish there were more frequent updates
supervised haircuts…..wise, very wise. i want one.
Nice job Glenn. I cut my hair myself for about a decade for the all the right reasons, mostly the money. This was reinforced by trips to the barber that were severely disappointing. However, if it wasn’t quite right I was occasionally called out by those who cared enough to tell the truth. Recently I let a friend give me a new style and I have to say it looks much better. Though I’m confident I can reproduce a fair facsimile, it is nice to have your head sculpted. The new hair has led to fame, fortune…well a new significant other came into my life at the same time. Coincidence? I can’t be bothered with such questions.
P.S. Keep up the good work all around. Where would diggnation be without you? More dirt – ran into this site yesterday: http://www.visualthesaurus.com/
Snappy little application for articulation.
post videos more often!
More Updates! Great videos.
Nice video, I like the Ratatat tune in the first part!
I don’t think I’m going to try cut my own hair, because it would probably look terrible. Luckily, my girlfriend cuts it every month
What is the song at the beginning?
First off, awesome idea for your website. I just recently became vegetarian (2 months and counting) and jumped over here as soon as it was mentioned on Diggnation. Looking forward to [hopefully] regular updates in the future.
Feelings and emotions, eh? Profound haircut talking.. I like your style (but you know this already). Good Ratatat accompaniment!
I love the blemish-hiding strategy – brilliant!
Dangit, update your site! I’m loving what you’ve got so far, just get some more.
As Alex said on Diggnation……. Flowbee. I dont know if these are even still available, but I have had mine for over 15 years, and still using it. I got it back when I was in the military and got tired of shelling out money for a haircut every week and a half to two weeks. For a short hair cut, it’s fool proof.
Hey there Glenn!
I followed your haircutting advise, and I must say that I’m pleased with the result. Never done something like this before, so I’m kind of psyched about the fact that I might save in some bucks because of this new routine.
I obviously had to ask my girl to cut the back of my head. So yeah, I’m quite satisfied. Keep these kind of things rolling!
Brilliant design on the website by the way.
Cheers from Sweden!
I seriously need to try this out. I almost have the same haircut, so it should work. Keep updating, I love it. More how-to stuff!

Diggnation fan from Stockholm, Sweden!
Awesome stuff! I’ll watch this over and over again until Kevin and Alex’s show isn’t just about selling shit anymore.
Seriously. This clip alone was more entertaining than the 10 last episodes of diggnation combined, and those guys doesn’t even have to come up with anything themselves, they just take stuff off digg and read it out loud (to the best of their ability).
PS. I like to eat meat, but I’ll keep visiting this site anyway. Keep it up!
glenn! you’re giving us home haircutters a bad name. i’ve been cutting my own hair for about 12 years now without the long patches. get a mirror for behind you. it takes practice, but after a few you get the hang of it. also try using scissors not just clippers.
The song at the beginning is called Mirando by Ratatat. It’s on the album LP3.
Funny video BTW!
the girlfriend hating on the self-haircut?
you and me both, man. you and me both.
hey I cut my own hair, yeah I get the same problem sometimes on the back, what I do its picture it even if Im not seeing it, it helps, and if you mess up well it will grow and its a nice topic when ppl say that your hair its not even hehehhe
Nice song for the video, it’s nice to see you release your own stuff. Keep up the good work and hope to see more videos soon.
This is just classic! I love it. I already showed this video to my brother who cuts his own hair. His wife said the same thing about the bald spots.
a never ending battle! but fun none the less. at least it creates some different dynamics!
send in pics if you got em – or tips on how to do better!
cheers Davin!

Cool tip and nice edited videio. Have to ask (cause im tech geek): what is that filter on those bathroom shots?
i laughed really freakin hard when i saw the shaving tip. so i shared the video with everyone on twitter, sent in emails to a few people who i knew would like it then saved your rss on google reader.
great work
