a couple of long long weeks ago i was in a place that i care not to care to discuss for more than a 7 or 8 minute period of time. it was a time that was as confusing as this and here is what went down when and how.
i was seated in a small upright position similar to that of a person in court awaiting the results of a hearing that will determine whether or not they scrub gum off of sidewalks in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay region – not that I’d have any know how of what that looks like, as I’ve never even seen a district court judge other than the one time a friend of mine made a model of that sort of scene with lego blocks.
so let’s get to it. here’s the scene slash typical scenario. I was editing a short montage type video clip for the popular social news networking site digg dot com. one typically gets about an hour or so of footages – ok, wait, quick side story. i have a friend from Nepal working on a documentary about his life growing up half in Nepal and half in Los Gatos, California – an interesting story but not the point of this. what the point is is that he doesn’t say footage, as in video footage. he says “footages”. I prefer “footages”. Thus, from this point forward, I will use the word footages instead of footage unless i forget and don’t. So – with the footages i was given, i needed to cut one point 5 hours down to about 3 minutes. I had her down to 4 minutes and to get it to 3, i had to cut what i thought was a key, crucial interview. it was devestating. but i understood why. had i kept it in there, the interview would’ve been 1/4 of all of the content in the whole piece. i wanted it. they didn’t – but again, i understood why. it would’ve been 1/4 of all of the content in the entire piece. anyway, here we are, the point of all of this mumbo jumbo (wonder what the origination of that word(s) is, don’t worry, i’m not going to look it up right now). the point is that the interview ended up being cut entirely because to just use a short portion of it would not have done it any justice, nor would one follow it or get the whole idea. so here, below, is the interview in it’s entirety. way to go Trammell, you really nailed it.
