Hi,
recently a really good friend of mine from PA sent me the following message regarding a work related experience that I thought I’d share. She’s a chiropractor and has been for a good amount of time now and frequently does adjustments on women that are pregnant as well as on newborns. In addition to the following, I’ve also heard some other amazing stories from her about her use with the Webster Technique. Do a search on this to learn more, but basically, it’s an adjustment for pregnant women about to give birth. It’s done close to the birthing process and is used to treat women that have a possible breach birth that will then most likely lead to the C-section, which does not sound fun. From what I understand, it’s an adjustment that opens things up and allows the little baby person to shift around and get into head down position for an easier birth. I’m not sure of the success rate on this but my friend seems to have a pretty high success rate.
So now to her story – about doing an adjustment on a new born. While that sounds a bit crazy to adjust such a small one, it actually makes perfect sense. Anything that can be done before tossing drugs at someone is always something that I prefer to at least consider before hand. One last note before the quick story – this is just something that I found of interest that I thought was worth sharing. This is merely meant to pass on info about options we all have – not to start any kind of debate or to provide a place for people to vent frustrations.
Thanks, and I hope you take something away from this or can pass it on to someone that may benefit.

Hi to my chiropractic friends!
Something occurred on Thursday to remind me in a remarkable way of the power of a chiropractic adjustment. I’m not telling this story to take any credit or because I think it’s a miracle above other miracles. It’s only what is supposed to happen when we are able to remove the interference and connect people to their source. Miracles should be the natural state! It was definitely a highlight of my 10 year professional career and up there with one of the coolest things I’ve witnessed in my life, including the birth of my son.
I got a call this past Thursday from the midwife I’m using for my home birth in August. She was at the house of another one of her clients whom I referred to her. The woman birthed a son 36 hours prior. The midwife told me he had a very slow, irregular heart rate of about 70 beats per minute (usually about 120-140 bpm plus in a new born). He was also yellow. Jaundice usually doesn’t set in that early. He was listless and pretty unresponsive. He did nurse a few times that day but had a very weak latch.
The midwife said that during the birth, she saw his head clear facing one direction and when his shoulders cleared, she was shocked to see them facing almost 180 degrees the other direction. She knew something was really wrong with this baby but felt intuitively that it was the neck trauma and resulting misalignment and spinal cord pressure that was causing the problem. She knew if they took the baby to the hospital, the doctors would have hooked it up to a bunch of monitors, found no cause and may have unknowingly sent the baby home to die. She asked if there was any way I could come down to their house to adjust him. It was my day off and perfect timing. I said I’d be right there.
When I got there, I checked the baby and found a severe counter rotation of occiput and C1 (top vertebra of the spine). I adjusted the baby and let him lay there for about 15 minutes while I checked the mom and we monitored his heart rate. After 15 minutes, I checked him again and had to slightly adjust the atlas one more time but occiput was holding. There were no other cranial or spinal misalignments. We again let him rest for about another 15 minutes. Once both of those adjustments started to hold, he started getting red splotching over his entire body. We were listening to his heart rate and it went from a very slow beep-beep, beep-beep, pause, beep-beep, beep-beep, pause to an obvious attempt by his innate intelligence to re-regulate itself. It would be slow, pause, then go really fast, then slow down, then go fast. His red splotching turned into a complete pink body in front of our eyes and his yellow hue completely subsided. He began to root and the mom let him nurse with a strong latch for the next 10 minutes. After she finished, I checked him one more time to make sure everything was holding and it was. He began to open his eyes, move around, and his reflexes were coming alive. It was all happening right in front of our eyes! At the end of that hour, we were listening to his heart rate and it normalized to 120-130 bpm. Yaeh! Also, as crazy as this sounds, his testicles descended. It could have just been coincidence, but they were undescended when I got there!
The midwife and I both left the house together. She said something to the effect of, ‘You know, don’t you, that if he weren’t adjusted when he was, he would have likely died of S.I.D.S. within the next few days. That baby definitely would not have made it.’ Wow! If you’ve ever worked with chiropractic and pregnancy/labor/delivery/babies/etc, time always stands still. We were all present in that room just doing what needed to be done. I knew that something amazing was happening and feel so blessed that I got to be a part of that baby’s amazing transformation. Again, I think these events are supposed to happen in the natural state when all of our circuits are connected. Life is the miracle that is unleashed. I’m telling you this story to remind you of the power that you hold to connect people to the source of their healing. Have a fantastic day!!
Love and light!
Kathy
p.s. Called the mom the next day and she said he was doing all normal baby things that night and the next day. He was waking up all night to nurse, crying, etc. Fabulous! I checked him again on Sunday. The heart rate was 130-140 bpm.
Mom and baby are both well. He did have a little decreased grip reflex, probably from the post trauma on his cervical nerves. This will clear as his body processes and heals.
p.s.s. In retrospect of this whole situation, I think the miracle above all miracles was that my midwife was able to recognize the need for this intervention. Without her discernment, I believe the outcome would have been much different. What would have happened if she didn’t know?

Great story, and keep them coming. Also, if you still have back trouble I recommend Qi Gong or Tai Chi. I did both for a while and it made my back like new plus you are more limber and flexible and all without drugs.
Thanks for sharing the story. Pretty inspirational.
It makes a lot of sense.
Dawn – How does it make sense to seek the help of a chiropractor for a listless infant? As a medical doctor, I am highly skeptical that the “adjustment” done by the chiropractor had any effect. I am concerned that stories like this may encourage new parents to forgo proper medical treatment, in favor of alternative methods that have very little scientific basis. An infant with the symptoms described absolutely needs to be “hooked it up to a bunch of monitors” in a medical environment. There is no way to properly monitor heart function simply by counting beats. I’m not going to speculate on a diagnosis, but I will say that it sounds a lot like people looking for a problem where none exists. To suggest that the patient would “definitely” have died without a chiropractic manipulation is completely absurd. To repeat such a comment is a blatant display of self-righteous ignorance.
I’m very sorry if this sounds rude, but I am truly concerned that this story will convince people to make the wrong decision regarding medical treatment for themselves or their children.
Michael, it seems as though you skipped reading what I wrote at the top before my friends letter. In case you missed it: “One last note before the quick story – this is just something that I found of interest that I thought was worth sharing. This is merely meant to pass on info about options we all have – not to start any kind of debate or to provide a place for people to vent frustrations.”
I thank you for your input and comment – but, if you read the intro, you’d realize that this story was not meant to “convince people to make the wrong decision regarding medical treatment for themselves or their children” – it was to “pass on info about options we all have”. It’s ok to be open minded regarding alternative approaches/medicine – especially since most of it has been practiced way longer than current Western medicine has.
