The following is a quick “Pre Trip” style compilation of what myself, Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose are doing before heading out.

Alright, well, today is July 3rd, which would make tomorrow the 4th. It’s definitely a chill, Saturday style (but today is Friday) here in SF for the Holiday however, I’ve been racing around runnings errand duties all over, getting ready with last minute things before leaving tomorrow for China. So while 99% of the people in the city will be festive tomorrow eve, I will have begun a 27 hour flight, er, maybe it’s 11 hours, to Beijing. I’ve never been before so I’m sure I’m in for some intense new surroundings. Lucky for me though, especially being a bit of a crowd phobe, I then head out to a much more mellow corner in China, the Yunnan Province. This is where we’ll end up for a little over a week touring around checking out the origins of Puerh tea.

I got so excited when I saw you put together a pre-China trip video. Hubby and I are living in Beijing and watching this trip unfold is So exciting for me. I wish for you, smooth movements. The first two times I came to China (9 day trips) I didn’t have any issues. Moving here was a whole different experience for my stomach. Don’t let that get you down. Eat eat eat the food. There’s plenty for you here. I promise.
Good Luck and HAVE FUN!
You grew up in Australia?!?
Where abouts and for what period of your life?
Great (and funny) video!
All the best with the solid squatting.
That mean no Diggnation for a while?
I’m living in Shanghai and it’s quite cosmopolitan. However, Yunan should be splendid–a real China experience. If you venture to Shanghai, let me know and I’d be glad to give you some suggestions for sights, nightlife, etc.
I just woke up to check my emails a last time and will be heading to China for a 7 months stay in Shangahai and saw tims tweet. what a coincidence.
If you stop in Shanghai let me know. If you know any startup in Shanghai, let me know as well.
good trip!
Tea tour? How much fun is that? I spent childhood holidays on a tea estate in India. Apart from taste, the way the tea grows looks so incredibly beautiful, I’m sure you’ll love it! Always wanted to see how China compares, so will live vicariously through your exploits and look forward to the updates when you get back. Have a great time all and take it easy.
I’m sure you guys have your ways of getting around the “Great Wall” of internet censorship while in China. I know right now Twitter is blocked from my iPhone apps due to the protesting (and deaths) in Western China. We use HotSpot Shield to get around that crap. It works although there is some advertising to blow through. There are times Flickr and Google are blocked as well so it’s pretty helpful. YouTube is on permanent block so unless you have a work around it’s pretty useless.
Would have bee fun to say hello on the way!
HOPEFULLY you’re so busy with beer and tea not to need the internet.
Our flight out ended up being to SFO then to LA.
Can’t wait for a new vid on your site.
I am an 30 year old American (from RI), who has lived in China for 6 years, and wife is from Yunnan. I have been following the Diggnation show for years, as it gives me a taste of home.
I recently moved back to Shanghai from Sichuan, and would LOVE to catch up with you guys before you leave (my moving messed up catching your “leaving for Yunnan” show on time. Please email me if you are still in China!!
Especially if you are flying through Shanghai, I can show you an amazing time, as I have contacts for anything.
Hope you guys all the best during your trip, and please call me any time or night (my work leaves me working crazy hours).
Thanks for the show!

Thanks for getting in touch Bryan!
We’re now back in the States, had an amazing time. We didn’t end up making it through Shanghai, but maybe we’ll see that area again sometime soon, who knows.
Thanks again for the offer, we’ll take you up on it next time!
