Last Random Episode from China!
Random – China Episode 2 Part B from Glenn McElhose on Vimeo.
In this second part of Random (from the Yin bar roof in Beijing), Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose (and a little bit Glenn) speak of their favorite travel spots. Covering a wide range of places, they go into the where and why, giving some examples and good info on what to look for and occasionally look out for.
Let us know your favorite locations in the comments below – and why.
Thx from the Random Team!

My favorite place is Russia. Specifically Moscow. I’ve been hoping that Kevin and Alex would go there for a Diggnation episode; it’s an amazing experience! The Moscow Metro is the most used and fastest in the world. It has gorgeous stations, too.
Russian is very “untouched” by American influence.
Love it.
Thanks for sharing all that with us, guys.
Instead of living vicariously through your trips, I might try out one of your suggestions!

Funny thing, I’m from Puerto Vallarta which is very close to Yelapa where Verana (the resort Kevin was talking about) is.
, don’t think my dad’s house can be classified as one.
There are amazing resorts all around Vallarta, very private, very luxurious, yet in touch with nature. It’s also a golfers paradise, there are golf courses all over the place.
I’m actually going to Vallarta for the holidays, really looking forward to it.
Unfortunately I won’t be staying in any kind of resort
I think when Tim was talking about Ixtapa, he wasn’t referring to the shitty town of Ixtapa which is close to Puerto Vallarta (the one shown in the map). I’m sure he was referring to San José Ixtapa which is close to Zihuatanejo http://digg.com/u3HqR5
Great tips guys! Is there a place Tim hasn’t been?
It’s good to know that Tokyo isn’t as expensive as London can be. I found it pretty easy to get by in London, but then again I didn’t have to pay for accommodations.

Glenn,
Quick Question: For a beginner interested in creating wedding slide shows, what software would you recommend? (interested in ease of use, yet with many options)
Thanks!
I’m not usually the type of person to comment online but I just really wasn’t sure if people should truly believe the first floor rule in Tokyo. I mean I don’t want to sound like a random online elitist bitch either just because I live in Tokyo, lol, but like in any country I just think it depends on what you intend on eating, and where and not really floors lol. Plus the restaurants (esp. in Shinjuku and Shibuya) are usually on the very top, basement, or first floors if they are not buildings with just restaurants on every floor. Nevertheless just go with your instincts and make time to go to other places besides Shinjuku or Shibuya especially if it is for food. Even though I do think they are great convenient places, particularly if you live here. But maybe in the end I guess people who really want to know where to eat in Tokyo would look further than this video so maybe my stupid opinions are silly and useless? O-well. Haha!
Either way kind of sidetracking here but love Diggnation and always watching it during my commute to work in Tokyo! Great thanks for putting informative content online for people outside of the States to look at and keep up-to-date with (unlike Hulu). Hope you come to Tokyo again soon-ne!
hmm – not sure actually. I use Final Cut Pro – but I bet there’s a better app that allows you to just drop stills into the timeline that would match up with the music. iMovie might be good for ease of use and quickness. One could then export that movie created out of iMovie and then bring it into FCP for more custom tweaking. Good luck and please re-post if you find anything that works for you. Thanks!
FINALLY!!!! Thanks Glenn.
In the three summers that I have spent in Finland, I had never been to anywhere but Oulu (about an hour from the arctic circle, aka Rovaniemi) and some of the archaeological sites within driving distance (which are spectacular- in the opinion of an archaeology student). Oulu is one of the biggest cities in Finland and it is well built, calm, quiet, and fun, but not the most spectacular in regards to tourist attractions. This summer me and a friend took the train to Helsinki and spent about four days discovering the city, and it was one of the most amazing I’ve been to. It’s definitely a walking city, we went everywhere on foot, but the public transportation is efficient and not too expensive. I hear that bike rentals are cheap and easy too, we just weren’t there long enough to really need them. There are so many historical sites and museums, it would make your head explode! If you do go, Suomenlina, Kiasma and the National Museum of Finland are a must! There is also Seurasaari, a small island off of Helsinki where they have brought traditional (historical) houses, and have created an open-air museum. I would definitely have spent at least another week or two just so I could have gone to all of the museums!! Oh and DO NOT MISS THE SAUNAS!!!!!!! Each dorm at Oulu has a sauna and I miss them dearly every time I have to leave— especially because I’m from Buffalo, NY and we’ve had two little blizzards in the past few weeks… we’re paying for our nice weather….
great show so far. so much fun to watch, i’m really enjoying it. keep up the good work.
i highly recommend venezuela, not caracas but everything else there is incredibly beautiful!
ps: being a berliner, i’d never thought berlin would make it into that list, well almost. awesome!
Hi Glen,
I saw on the last Random episode that you
will be visiting Buenos Aires soon.
I am leaving this Saturday to study abroad
there for six months. Send me an
email if you want to go out. My buddy was
down there last semester and knows
a handful of gorgeous Argentinean girls that
he introduced me to through facebook.
hmm – would love to visit Buenos Aires, however, currently no plans to do so. maybe sometime in the future though, would be awesome. thanks for invite!
Great suggestions! Love each episode hitherto, keep up!
Awesome, makes me want to visit China, but without the whole being scammed part.
What camera did you use for this, is it the same as the one you use for Diggnation? I have a friend who’s liking to get a good quality camera, and was wondering about what you used.
simple affordable camera I took with (easy for travel) was just a Canon HV40. also has mic line in for doing lav or external mics which is a great handy feature.
Why don’t you guys get out of your comfort zone and start visiting countries that you have never visited before? It is easy to rehash details about a country that you have previously visited or lived in. Why not make your next visit to the country of Bhutan. Bhutan is a country I bet 99% or better of your readers have neither heard of nor have ever visited. Of course if you decide to follow up on my advice then contact me soI can go with you! I can rehash details about the country and you guys can live a most amazing adventure.
Denmark is a great place to go. I just got back from a six week training stint. It has a lot of history. Kind of crazy that you can go from one side of Denmark to the other in a few hours.
Thank you so much Glen for capturing these moments between friends. An expensive set with a ton of cameras can’t compete with the authenticity that happens when you 3 get together. And I love the old man’s music at the beginning of the China videos. Very well edited, I love watching your work.
Thx for your nice comments! Also – have a new random episode that I’ll be posting tomorrow!
Out of all the episodes this is my favorite. They should do more Random episodes in other countries and such. Perhaps japan
Hello there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting tired of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
