I often get asked about what gear I use for work, so this is a quick-like rundown of some regular-use items. I don’t claim to know all intricacies or absolute ‘best’ items, this is just what I’m currently using for the work that I do. Hope this helps and thanks to those for putting in the requests and pushing me to put something out!

Cool video Glenn. I thought you said you used a “Red” camera quite a few diggnations ago?
haven’t ever used a Red, although I’d love to at some point, would be cool to see the workflow with one of those!
other diggnations, if not with 5d, were shot with a Sony EX-1
Hi, HippieGlenn! haha, sorry to call you that, I couldnt help it since I always hear Alex and Kevin calling you by that name. It’s just fun.
I know nothing about most of those equipments, but I’m a fan of quality sound. I used to own an AKG K414p and made upgrade to the newest AKG Q460 (Quincy Jones Signature Line) to use on the go, and, at home I use an AKG K99. There’s a lot of hype about the Bose headphones but I really think the AKG makes more quality sound. Do you have ever used one of the AKG headphones? What do you think about them?
Thx, Glenn. Sending to my sister…from the pro to an aspiring pro
nice video.. but you must have spent a poop ton of money on that stuff
Thanks Glen,
Always wondered what gear you were using.
Where’d you get the goggles at the end?
yes – tis not the cheapest of gear and isn’t really for just starting up, but is kind of what one has to spend to keep up with things. side note: to have been in this business 10-15 years ago would cost one at least 10 times the amount of what this gear cost, so with that perspective in mind, it’s actually pretty cheap.
haha – goggles came with a moped that i bought off of kevin a few years ago. i’ll ask him on next diggnation shoot, but i imagine was an online purchase – vintage!
Thanks for the hardware rundown. Cool flying footage. And I loved the kitty cats!
Hey man really cool video and cats. Whats that little camera at the end with 3 lenses? Looks sick
I’ve only seen some of your work, but LOVE IT! Very informative! The cats are hysterical!!
Great video Glenn I am glad you finally posted a video like this.
As someone relatively new to photography and video all these products shown and information was quite overwhelming.
Perhaps you could give us broken down segments of what a pro would use vs someone just starting.
nailed it.
Also Id have to agree on the nerve-wrecking that comes with not able to truly monitor your audio…..you just never know whats really going on. Best not to find out when its too late.
it’s a Bell & Howell two-fifty-two – whatever that means. it’s my dad’s old super8mm camera. someday I’ll put it to use!
sure – maybe I can find someone to help out that knows more and can kind of co-host. shall keep you posted! thx
Glenn, man, I hate to tell you this because it will mean a lot of work for you but I really would like to see more of you on camera. I think you have the absolute coolest style when it comes to videography and editing and personality too so if you don’t mind just go ahead and start your own show and crank out new episodes each week because I am thoroughly entertained by everything you make and I really enjoy this website.
Thanks,
Ryan
haha! thanks ryan, that’d be cool but that freakin’ “work” stuff gets in the way. someday I’ll post more often – just have to cut out more of the work stuff!
Glenn,
Thanks for putting this together. As I mostly shoot at home where I can control the sound environment, we sometimes shoot in restaurants and I’ve always wondered how you guys were mic’d wirelessly. Thanks for pointing out the model numbers and stuff. Helps out a ton.
Mike
Glenn, thanks for the camera gear rundown! It’s interesting how much gear can go into making a show, such as Diggnation or just when you’re filming for fun. It was nice to get a look at what gear you have and use!
Thank you,
Jamie
awesome vid as always! thanks for posting the background music at the end, keep up the good work!
Glenn, Thanks for DL on the equip.. Love your editing style 2.. Tryin to get there!! You da man.
Thanks a ton Glenn,
I’ve always been to curious as to what your setup was. Really appreciate it, very helpful.
Take care and keep up the great work.
what music is playing the background? sounds interesting!
Thanks for doing that video! Great gear you have.
Your cats are so cute and were funny to watch!
Yo Glen,
Awesome video and great run down of equipment, definitely like someone above said you have your own style and nice to see it shining through here.
Nice goggles at the end too, you looked like a cross between a dark raver and Caractacus Potts.
Who needs all that equipment when you have blammo, glammo and blammo. ^^
Nice and informative. Actually really surprised at the camera of choice is a Photo, and video specific. What do you use for post-production? Also, is it that the music doesn’t fall under the copyright laws?
Thanks again for sharing!
Glenn,
Great video. I agree with most on here, we want more of you on camera!
One question, was the camera angle messing with your monitor in that shot or is that really a badass monitor? If so can you post a link? I’d like one.
Big fan of diggnation, and everything you got going man! keep up the good work.
hmm – guessing that the wide angle of the lens (think I was using a 16-35mm) was making that monitor look extra huge/distorted – funny stuff. but yeah, it’s an apple 23inch display. I do love it though – tis very nice compared to the laptop screen! thx for comments Ian!
use Final Cut Pro for editing – and music is just under fair use, as I’m not using it to make any money.
Hey Glenn!
I loved the video, it has helped me a lot.
I wanted to know, if you have ever use your Gorrila Pod as a Steadicam?
Thx!
kind of – but didn’t take the time to set it up properly. Imagine with a little bit of prep time, that it’d work out pretty well since it can conform to your waist easily.
Hey Glenn,
Was just wondering, what is your job? Bit straight forward but why not get right to the point
Also, have you ever been to Bali or Melbourne, are you going back? Would be sick to be able to meet you
Peace!
Hey Harry,
for work, I produce, shoot and edit – all freelance currently so it’s always changing content wise. I grew up outside of Sydney – so I do hope to make it back there sometime soon. As for Bali, haven’t been but it’s on the list! I’ll keep ya posted – thanks!
Oh awesome,
Would love to do some freelance photography work, kinda hard with university though.
Did you go to university to learn the stuff you know or just taught yourself?
Hi Glen,
Thanks for that awesome video and also very nice equipment you got there. I recently got into film like two yearsago so I’m new at certain things. I wanted to ask you what’s the best software for video editing that you have used? I currently have a Canon T2i – as a beginner of course. also any lenses that you recommend. That would be great. Thanks and talk to you soon.
-Francisco Ramirez
Francisco – yes, worth spending a little on the lens – especially because you can upgrade the body but keep the lens if you start getting good ones. I’d say a 16-35mm or 24-70mm is a great all around option to start with. probably the 24-70 but I do really like the wide of the 16. Software wise, I just you Lightroom – really like it a lot! have fun!
have been seeing your work for a long time, very cool stuff, you’re a talented dude, thanks for showing us your kit, you turned me onto among other things the Bose QC15 for monitoring (you and Marc Maron from WTF) you guys both have worked in pro environments where the sony mdr7506 is usually the norm but they’re uncomfortable for longer periods and ears become a sauna, the bose are a nice investment, thanks.
Did I hear you’re a vegan Glenn ? if so hats off to you man, enjoy a nice long healthy guilt free slim cancer-free life .
Time for your own show, seriously you’ve shown you’re really watchable, build it we’ll come.
Glenn, What tripod(s) are you using, particularly interested for the 5D?
Hi Glen,
thanks for a great video. I was particularly curious about the type of cameras you use. Now that I know, I have a question about using DSLRs for interviews and long continual shoots. I’ve read that one of the problems with DSLRs is that they can’t shoot in video mode for long because they heat up quickly. But most of your videos are quite long. So I wanted to ask if you’ve had any heat related issues with your 5D?
haven’t had any issues like that yet – and I’ve shot continually with them for at least a few hours with start and stop time very minimal – like just a few seconds. I’ve heard the same but haven’t had any issues personally.
Thanks Glen. I’ve been saving up for a Canon dslr, so I’m glad to know you haven’t had any heating problems.
Thanks again, and keep up the awesome work
