Dr. Weil Interview

By Glenn McElhose on January 28th, 2010 under News, Video Projects, Weekly Video

A couple weeks ago (mid January of twenty ten), I went to shoot an interview in Arizona with Dr. Andrew Weil. Kevin Rose compiled a list of questions for Dr. Weil focused on the perspective of the geek, one who typically is indoors working at a computer most of the day (probably 90% of us). I was going to transcribe the interview word for word and post that, but instead, after long internal deliberation, decided that I would just post the interview in a video format, this way nobody would question my translating abilities and accuse my person of hacking the text words. This post is interesting in it’s timeliness as the previous post was on Kristin’s book – and his responses all pretty much match what she writes about in her nutrition guideline/cookbook. Enjoy!

Therapeutic Chef Cookbook

By Glenn McElhose on December 21st, 2009 under News, Video Projects, Weekly Video

As most of you know, Kristin recently self-published her 1st cookbook  “Therapeutic Chef:  Recipes to Prevent Cancer, Heart Disease and Diabetes.” – available via Amazon.  While the title may sound a bit intense, I assure you that this book is for everyone, regardless of whether you’re trying to prevent illness or not.  I have eaten the vast majority of these recipes and can say that beyond their therapeutic healthy value – they are all extremely tasty and satisfying – whether you’re a vegetarian or not.

I recently finished going through the book myself and thought that I should post a few of the pages that I think make this book so valuable.  I will also include a few recipes that are in the book that you can try out, as well as some pages and recipes names of other personal favorites.  Hope you enjoy!

Fun with your voicemail message!

By Glenn McElhose on December 16th, 2009 under News, Photo of the Week, Video Projects, Weekly Video

I was recently hanging out with @kevinrose and after a few beverages, he pulled up the AT&T voicemail message website. For the next hour, we played around with different messages, trying to compete for who could come up with the worst message that would annoy people calling to the point where they’d not want to leave a message. It was funny for awhile, but since I use my cell phone as a business phone as well, I finally had to pull it since I feared that potential clients might get confused and then not leave any message or contact info.
Anyway, here’s the site for you playing pleasure. Please feel free to post what you come up with here – or, as mentioned in the last diggnation episode, email your masterpieces to:  fans@diggnation.com

My masterpiece: (I also pulled it into FCP to add a few delay effects before sending it off to the iphone). can be listened to hear:

In this second part of Random (from the Yin bar roof in Beijing), Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose (and a little bit Glenn) speak of their favorite travel spots. Covering a wide range of places, they go into the where and why, giving some examples and good info on what to look for and occasionally look out for.
Let us know your favorite locations in the comments below – and why.

Random Episode 5, China, Part 2 of 2, Section A of A & B

By Glenn McElhose on October 7th, 2009 under News, Photo of the Week, Video Projects, Weekly Video

the following video clip is Random Episode 5 (or 6), Part 2 of 2, portion A.  The whole thing is 45 minutes and based upon recent comments, it deemed appropriate to cut it into 2 twenty some minute segments.  There was an easy place between topics to do such cutting.  Thus, this first episode covers one main topic that we can call – “scammers and being scammed while out traveling”.  Part 2 will be about “personal favorite places to travel to” and why.

Show Notes:
- open intro weird light video:  kevin shooting a laser into a “7 Cups” vessel

From a tiny corner table at a busy Samovar Tea Lounge in San Francisco, Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose jump into another random brain spew episode by starting off with a little medical update on Tim’s recent ER visit for some elbow issues.  See below for show notes – other topics, links.

Yunnan, China – Pre Trip

By Glenn McElhose on July 3rd, 2009 under Video Projects, Weekly Video

Alright, well, today is July 3rd, which would make tomorrow the 4th.  It’s definitely a chill, Saturday style (but today is Friday) here in SF for the Holiday however, I’ve been racing around runnings errand duties all over, getting ready with last minute things before leaving tomorrow for China.  So while 99% of the people in the city will be festive tomorrow eve, I will have begun a 27 hour flight, er, maybe it’s 11 hours, to Beijing.  I’ve never been before so I’m sure I’m in for some intense new surroundings.  Lucky for me though, especially being a bit of a crowd phobe, I then head out to a much more mellow corner in China, the Yunnan Province.  This is where we’ll end up for a little over a week touring around checking out the origins of Puerh tea.

The following is a quick “Pre Trip” style compilation of what myself, Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose are doing before heading out.

dirtsalad Explainer

By Glenn McElhose on February 11th, 2009 under Video Projects

Hello – and welcome to dirtsalad!  What is this site? Well, to me it’s basically about random dirt/happenings/etc that take place in one’s close proximity and then they are tossed together in some sort of salad – a video salad that is.  I’m going to post 1 video per week.  Initially, it’ll be shot and edited by myself, Glenn.  However, my long term goals are to get others to help out in any way possible.  It’s all about getting people together and creating content that promotes a sort of awareness, consciousness, and environmental type style in a fun and engaging way. I’ll actually try to explain this better with a video – I’ll do that for next week, or soon anyway.  Also coming soon is an update to this site.  I know it’s bare-bones and rather template oriented now, but at some point soon I’ll get time to make it a bit more original.

Ok, so here’s this weeks video.  It’s about making popcorn.  Why? Well, my girlfriend Kristin is a therapeutic chef and typically cooks or prepares meal plans for people that are trying to prevent cancer, heart disease or diabetes by using foods as medicine.  In this video, you will learn how to make popcorn that tastes crazy good and uses ingredients that are actually good for you. Hope you enjoy and please feel free to write in with any questions/comments to comments at dirtsalad.com

Hmm, that email address seems to not be working right now.  Let’s go with comments@keyholeproductions.com for now. Sorry.

Thanks for stopping by!

Glenn

Edit Day in Final Cut Pro on Vimeo

By Glenn McElhose on January 1st, 2009 under Video Projects

It usually takes about 6-8 hours to edit Diggnation in it’s basic sense.  While doing so one day, I did a screen capture of the entire process and then condensed it down to 3 minutes and set it to music.  Sometime soon, I’ll upload a basic ‘how to’ video on jumping into Final Cut Pro.   I’m not a certified instructor by any means, but upon many ocassion, I’ve done little 10 minute sitdowns with people to explain some basics that allow for quickly having fun with editing.  It’s not a hard app to learn but if you’re just starting out, there are a few things that’ll help make it easy and fun really quickly.
